Florida Atlantic University Pre-Health Professions Office
777 Glades Road (SE 308) Boca Raton, FL 33431
The primary mission of the College of Science's
Pre-Health Professions Office
is to be a source of support and guidance for FAU students, post-baccalaureates and alumni interested in pursuing careers in the health professions. Our pre-health advisors are committed to providing advising tailored to meet the needs of each individual, creating meaningful relationships with our students. We work to create an environment full of academic excellence, strong relationships with students, faculty and staff; and learning opportunities through clinical experiences, community service, scientific inquiry and research as well as campus involvement.
A “traditional” pre-health pathway is offered for freshmen and transfer students wanting to earn a Bachelor’s degree and apply to professional school. Although students may select any major, due to restrictions in credit hours and the design of the new MCAT exam, we recommend that students consider Neuroscience (or Biology) as their degree of choice.
A post-baccalaureate medical pathway program is offered for students that have already earned a Bachelor’s degree.
All academic advising (for students that maintain over a 3.0 GPA) will take place with the Pre-Health Professions Office (SE 308).
NEW MEDICAL PIPELINE PROGRAM (BS/MD)
The MED DIRECT Program at Florida Atlantic University is a collaborative effort between FAU’s College of Medicine and College of Science. This program is offered at the Boca Raton campus, enabling the two Colleges to create special opportunities for undergraduate students. Applicants should be high school seniors who demonstrate a strong interest in medicine, a high level of academic ability, a passion for service and commitment to volunteerism. Students admitted into this program will be guaranteed* a seat in FAU’s College of Medicine provided they maintain the required program standards. Each student will work very closely with the program coordinator to develop an individual education plan and to ensure a smooth transition into the College of Medicine.
