As part of the Apple Snail Adoption Program (ASAP), a collaboration between the Arthur Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge and FAU Pine Jog Environmental Education Center, at least 500 students in Palm Beach County will help in propagating and restoring native Florida apple snail populations. Students participate in raising native snails in their classrooms and then release them to wild areas.  Additionally, students are removing exotic snail eggs, and helping to restore wetland habitats by planting over 2,500 native trees. So far, 120 students from three local schools have visited the refuge and Grassy Waters Preserve to assist with conservation efforts and participate in outdoor lessons. To date, over 900 pond apple and bald cypress trees in the C10 impoundment! Specials thanks to our partners in the Palm Beach County School District, The Arthur Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, Grassy Waters Preserve and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation that funded the grant through the Five Star Urban Waters Grant Program.
