Inaugurated in 2016 under the leadership of Executive Director Randy D. Blakely, Ph.D., the FAU Brain Institute is a physical and programmatic embodiment of the FAU Neuroscience Pillar, which serves to focus academic research investment in areas with greatest potential impact across the multiple dimensions of the institution, Strategic Plan.

The Brain Institute supports research, education and community outreach, with efforts spanning all of the FAU campuses. The Brain Institute administrative home is on the FAU MacArthur campus in Jupiter, Florida that also houses the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College, the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience and the Scripps Florida Research Institute.

The Brain Institute supports state-of-the-art research and innovative educational activities of more than 100 neuroscience faculty-level investigators located at FAU and affiliate research centers, and is the sponsor for the FAU Neuroscience Student Organization. Collectively, we seek to unlock the secrets of brain development, function and plasticity and how the mechanisms uncovered can be compromised to drive devastating brain disorders such as Autism, Schizophrenia, Depression and Alzheimer’s Disease.
