[Image: Michael Horswell]     >>  Following a national search, Michael J. Horswell, Ph.D., has been named the new Dean for the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. In addition to a distinguished record of scholarship and teaching, Dr. Horswell brings a wealth of strengths and knowledge of the college to the position of Dean, having served as the Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies in the college since December 2012. He was also Director of the Ph.D. in Comparative Studies Program from August 2012 to January 2017 and prior to that he served as Chair of the Department of Languages, Linguistics and Comparative Literature from August 2008 to December 2012. Dr. Horswell earned his BA in Spanish and Business Economics in 1987 from Wofford College, his Master’s in Spanish Studies from Middlebury College in 1989, and his Ph.D. in Spanish American Literature from the University of Maryland in 1997. Dr. Horswell replaces former Dean Heather Coltman, DMA, who has taken the position of Provost at James Madison University.
