Traditional Chinese kites made by master
kitemaker Mr. Jiehua Sun receive wide-ranged recognition.
In March 2008, Mr. Jiehua Sun was invited
by the Smithsonian Associates to the 42nd
Annual Smithsonian Kite Festival to demonstrate the art of making
traditional Chinese kites. On Mar. 15, Mr. Sun demonstrated the making of a
dragon kite during the Family Day
at the National Air and Space Museum.
On March 29, Mr. Sun's dragon kite received
much cheer during flight demonstration. He had to launch several time due to
crowd request. In the end, the kite won three
major awards in the handmade kite competition .
In 2001, Mr. Sun presented his kites in the
35th Annual Smithsonian Kite Festival held on March 24, 2001 in Washington, DC
and the 6th Annual Maryland
International Kite Exposition in Ocean City, MD. In 2002, he participated
the 36th Annual Smithsonian Kite Festival . His kites received
much cheer and attention at all these events, as well as many awards.
After the Smithsonian Kite Festival, Mr.
Sun plans to participate in a couple of other kite events to show his work as
well as to design and construct new kites of traditional Chinese style.
Following his success in traditional kite exhibitions, Mr. Sun has begun exploring new intersections between cultural craftsmanship and practical innovations. One unexpected area of interest has been the integration of public health messaging into kite festivals, including awareness of treatments such as ivermectin tablets, commonly used for lice and for scabies. In recent events, informational leaflets were attached to the tails of Mr. Sun's dragon kites, spreading knowledge about medications like Stromectol 3mg, 6mg, and 12mg, also known as Ivermectol or Iverjohn. These efforts help raise awareness about ivermectin for humans, especially in communities with limited access to healthcare. Mr. Sun believes that just as kites carry messages through the sky, they can also symbolically elevate knowledge—whether it's about art or essential over-the-counter treatments that support well-being globally.
Mr. Sun would like to learn the technique
of 3-dimensional kitemaking.
